Friday five
What's harder to live without, chocolate or alchohol?
Definitely chocolate. I'm a social drinker but I'm ravenous for all things chocolate.

Does the colour yellow remind you of anything?
Big Bird.

Who most annoyed you last week?
In general, the school where I work. Specifically, on student in my afternoon classes who really should have been kicked out months ago. He's way more interested in disrupting classes and his classmates than he ever has been in his education.

Do you have a cutesy romantic nickname for your partner (or previous partners)?
No.

What is your favourite Stephen King movie?
I've always really liked the mini-series adaptation of The Stand that aired on ABC in 1994. The Sci-Fi Channel reran it this weekend. I still think that's one of the best adaptations of King novel... and certainly, The Stand isn't the easiest of his books to adapt for any medium. If The Stand didn't count because it was a TV movie and not a proper film, I'd have to change my answer to the 1980 version of The Shining. You know... the good one.

The Stand was one of the greatest things ever to come out of television, indeed.

The Stand is my ALL TIME favorite King miniseries, I bought the DVD and watch it every once in a while. I watched desperation but was so disappointed. The updated Salem's Lot with Rob Lowe was shit too.

Salem's Lot is probably my favorite of King's books and I thought the new version was pretty damn good compared to the original mini-series which... y'know, it was what it was.

The only thing that niggled at me with the new version of Salem's Lot was the unnecessary stuff the script gave Father Callahan- it didn't seem necessary to the story.

right. it just seemed like they added stuff just to add stuff. I hate filler. I love Lowe in the movie it just seemed..off i guess? kings books are awesome as is and I hate when they just mess it all up. (i.e. the remade shining.)I just reread the book a couple of months ago because I'd forgotten most of the story having not read it since I was a kid. the book creeped me out way more than the movie did.

have you read any of the comics that they created out of the dark tower? I browsed one at the bookstore but haven't read one in full.

I bought the first issue of the DT comic and perused the rest in the comic store- they look incredibly well done but the first mini-series at least, covers stories I've already read before. It's pretty much a straight-up adaptation of Wizard & Glass. I don't know if the second mini-series is different, but I've heard that it's newer stories.

I'm looking forward to Marvel Comics' adaptation of The Stand that King's been pimping out lately. Even if that's just a straight-up retelling of the novel, I liked that book enough to buy it straight through.
