I thought I'd start posting some "Cheers and Jeers". The idea for Cheers and Jeers was something that I came up with entirely myself with no help from anyone or any publication in print either now or ever. 100% my idea.

Cheers to the idea of sequels... but waiting a long time to make them. For some reason this week, I got hit with these two articles: Keanu Reeves leaves door open for a third Bill and Ted movie and Judd Apatow says he'd like to make another Anchorman movie with Will Ferrell 30 years from now

I like the idea of giving audiences a ton of breathing room between sequels... especially sequels that people aren't exactly chomping at the bit to see in theaters RIGHT NOW. I can't even decide which of those two movies I'd like to see more, but I'm leaning toward Bill & Ted 3. Honestly, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is way more awesome than it's rep would lead you to believe.

Jeers to trying to rewatch The Lord of the Rings movies. Seriously, how can anybody sit down and watch these movies a second time? They're so effing long! I really enjoyed the first LotR flick and liked the second and third, but damn. I tried to watch 'em this weekend and I couldn't get more than a half an hour into 'em before I had to call it quits. I salute the folks who can make it through all three in a day.

Cheers to my in-laws and extended family for working together to give Ellen a piano! She's so freakin' happy with it!

Jeers to my school slapping an extra four days of school onto the year- instead of being finished in May, I now have to go all the way to June 6th. While a far cry from how long I needed to be in school back in Brooklyn, it's somewhat demoralizing. Plus, Ellen and I had plans to go to her 10 year high school reunion on June 6th.

Cheers to the audiobook version of The Golden Compass I've been listening to lately.

Jeers to the confusing title mix-up with the books- I had no idea until last night that The Golden Compass was originally Northern Lights in the UK. Why you gotta be changin' book titles all the time, American publishers? (Although for the record, The Golden Compass is a MUCH better title than Northern Lights. Northern Lights sounds like the name of a gay bar in Buffalo, New York).

Dude, at least you're getting interviews. I have heard nothing back from the schools I've applied to.

I'm thinking about rewriting my resume and cover letter. I should not be having these problems.

To be honest, I've only had two interviews so far, but it's still a little early for schools to be interviewing in most cases. I didn't confirmation on my last two positions until summer... and late summer at that!

Woah, that's weird. I was totally thinking about what would happen if there was a Bill and Ted 3...ha.

Good luck with the interviews. Man, I know this is hard. Stick with it. You'll find the place that makes you happy.

Whoever interviewed you must have had really hairy hands.

I was interviewed by Kowalski from The Ren & Stimpy Show.

No seriously, that's a complete fabrication on my part. I just felt like drawing some serious hands.

My boyfriend has his first ever interview for a teaching job tomorrow, and has a few more lined up in the coming weeks. I'm nervous for him, because I know he hates interviews, too. I've been trying to think up practice questions for him, but what have you gotten asked? Any advice for a teacher-to-be that I could pass along to him?

Well it's probably too late now, but on the off chance that he will have further interviews after this one, my only piece of advice is to make sure he asks lots of proactive questions. Come up with like a list of twenty and practice them. It's important to answer the administration's questions about your teaching philosophy and what have you, but I think many principals also like to hear a lot of questions bounced back at them.

...and as for practice questions, I always get asked about my teaching philosophy. I always get asked about inclusion. I always get asked about my POV on discipline. There are a ton of "teacher interview Q&A" websites floating around and while I've yet to be asked by an interviewer about what book I'm currently reading for pleasure, printing up a bunch of website questions and doing drills on 'em is usually good practice.

I find the LotR movies to be great for snow days. When the snow is piling up and you just want to wrap up in every blanket you own and be a slug... Lord of the Rings is amazing for keeping you just over that line of awake. Of course I have the extended versions because, really, they're better than the theater versions -- but also longer.
